Another update on Brina

I just want to start out by saying thank you so much to everyone who expressed concern and care for Sabrina. It means so much to us that you would put her in your thoughts and prayers. A couple of days ago we went back to the neurologist for another check up. The neurologist gave us great news and said that we have nothing to worry about with Sabrina that she will be perfectly normal. I don't know if I can totally explain it because I don't understand all of it, but I am trying to trust that what he says is true. So, when you are born you have all the brain cells/neurons that you will have. As you develop and learn skills a thin sheath grows over the neurons and connects them all together. It is called mylination. (I am sure I didn't spell that right). They used to think that that process was completed by age 2, but are now discovering that it is closer to 4. So, kids that seem to be developing slow just means that the process has not been completed. Sabrina is perfect cognitively and her speech is coming along really quickly also. Those are the signs that everything is just fine and that the process of mylination is just not complete. He said that she will grow out of it - usually by about 4 or 5 years old. It is hard for me to put what is going on with her brain together with the lack of muscle strength, but he says that she will grow out of that also. So, it is great news and I feel much relief now. She is still struggling, but it is nice to know that there is not a major problem. We just need to be patient. Sadly, I am not very good at that! But, I will try hard.
