I did it!!

So, I actually did it! I sewed a quillow - actually 2 of them. I don't have a picture of the other one because I gave it to Mary to sew the tag on and forgot to take a picture of it before I gave it to her. But, I made one boy one and one girl one. For those of you that are not in our stake, every year we do a "Summer of Service" and this year we are making quillows. Each ward is making 35-50 quillows and then they will be given to the incoming kindergarteners at 3 local schools. I don't sew at all. I don't even own a sewing machine much less a needle and thread. But, I decided to try and make at least one mostly on my own - with the help of my mom. When I went to look for the material, I couldn't decide on just one and decided to do a boy and a girl one. I went to my mom's house a couple of different days and she taught me how to thread the bobbin and thread the needle on the machine and then I sewed. I know that it was only straight lines on the quillow, but it was a big deal to me. It was really fun to see it all come together and to know that I did it mostly myself and that I learned a skill that our Stake President has asked us to learn. I don't think that I will start sewing a bunch of things, but it was a great experience and I am proud that I did it!

It looks great!! Don't you love learning a new skill -- even if it isn't one that you TOTALLY love!! Makes you feel a little more self-reliant!
