Okay, so I am not a camping kind of gal! Jared and I have been married 11 years and we have never been camping as a family. I certainly wasn't going to go camping while I was pregnant with my kids and it seems like that spanned most of our married life so far. Then, when you are not pregnant, you have little babies that make it unenjoyable to camp with. Those are my excuses anyway! :) Well, some friends from our ward were going camping and invited us to go. I finally decided to try it (just for a night). Our kids are almost all old enough that it is not a huge pain. So, we drove up to Black Canyon Lake up past Payson and joined several families from our ward (Elzinga's, Rapier's, Hamberlin's, Latham's, Hartman's, and some family members from the Rapier's and the Hamberlin's). We showed up mid-afternoon on Friday and within about a half hour of arriving, it started to pour! We hunkered down in our tent and wished we had cards or other games to play. The Hartman's invited us to hang out with them in their camper. When the rain finally finished, we got to hang out for a little bit. Of course it was very muddy and Sabrina promptly fell into a huge mud puddle. Good thing I brought 4 changes of clothes. I hate to be dirty, which is a huge reason I don't like camping. But, the kids had a great time. Jim taught Caleb and Gavin how to shoot an arrow and they just enjoyed being outside and running around. Although, Gavin didn't feel very good and hung out with me most of the time. The Elzinga's and the Rapier's cooked and wonderful dinner and breakfast the next morning! They are expert campers and have all the cool equipment. It was a fun time and I was glad that we went. On Saturday, we went down to the lake and played in the water and stuff. Other than the fact that we maybe slept 2 hours that night, it was a great time and fun family memories! Thanks for inviting us!!
