Where do I get these ideas?

So, I guess that I just wanted to be like everyone else. So many people are into running and I have NEVER had any desire to run or start running. But, this program sounded like something I could do and wanted to see if I was right. So, I looked up the Couch to 5K program. It has you running a 5K in 9 weeks. Jared decided he would run with me. So, 3 days a week we go running around our neighborhood. It has actually been fun (a word I have never put in the same sentence with run). It has been a challenge. We are now at the end of week 4. Here is the schedule of what we do each week:

  • Week 1: 5 min warm up, then alternate 60 sec run and 90 walk 8 times and cool down
  • Week 2: 5 min warm up, then alternate 90 sec run and 2 min walk 6 times and cool down
  • Week 3: 5 min warm up, 90 sec run, 90 sec walk, 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 90 sec run, 90 sec walk, 3 min run, cool down
  • Week 4: 5 min warm up, 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, 2 1/2 min walk, 3 min run, 90 sec walk, 5 min run, cool down
  • Week 5: Day 1 - 5 min warm up, 5 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run, 3 min walk, 5 min run, cool down. Day 2 - 5 min warm up, 8 min run, 5 min walk, 8 min run, 5 min walk, cool down. Day 3 - 5 min warm up, 20 min run.
  • Week 6: Day 1 - 5 min warm up, 5 min run, 3 min walk, 8 min run, 5 min walk, 5 min run, cool down. Day 2 - 5 min warm up, 10 min run, 3 min walk, 10 min run, 3 min walk, cool down. Day 3 - 5 min warm up, 25 min run, cool down.
  • Week 7: 5 min warm up, 25 min run, cool down
  • Week 8: 5 min warm up, 28 min run, cool down
  • Week 9: 5 min warm up, 30 min run, cool down

As I write this, we have one day left in week 4. I am VERY nervous about week 5. Especially to think that in 8 days I will be asked to run 20 min straight. I don't know how that will go, but, I guess we will see. It has been fun to do this with Jared. He is barely winded after we run, because he just stays with me, and that is frustrating to see him barely breathing heavy and me dying, but after 12 years we have finally found something to do together!! Just kidding. It is fun to have that time uninterrupted together. I will try to post updates on how the next few weeks go. I need all the encouragement I can get.

Yes Tiffany, we are thinking about running your 5K in November. We shall see!!

THINKING is not an acceptable word--unless you are thinking about WHICH ONE you want to do...5K..10K...HALF MARATHON! :) I'll even take the one mile family fun run!!!! :)

Running is 90% mental--you are doing AMAZING--keep up the good work! it's really depressing how hard it is to build up your mileage compared to HOW FAST you lose it--so seriously--if you can--keep trying to run a couple miles a week--even after your first 5K!! Once you do a race you will be HOOKED--I KNOW it!!

ANd seriously--going back to my race--you won't want to miss it! It is so much fun! Free Pasta dinner the night before--FREE KID ZONE with 7 inflatables--face painting--cotton candy--doughnuts--popcorn--coloring contests--jewelery making--etc. Plus you're supporting a good cause--AND you get to come hang with me!! :) What could be better than that!! :) jk
