First Day Of School 2010

The glorious first day of school finally arrived. I have been looking forward it for months now. I think it is going to be a GREAT year. It was so fun to see Caleb and Gavin walk to school together. They have been waiting a long time to go to the same school.
They will normally ride their bikes to and from school, but I of course wanted to walk them the first day. How cute are they?
Gavin is FINALLY in Kindergarten. It has been a long time coming. He missed the cut off last year by 26 days. I thought long and hard about whether to test him into Kindergarten, but decided all day school was going to be a little much for him. So, he went back to preschool and did fine. I am glad I waited. I think he will do great this year. He has our favorite KDG teacher, Ms Weinerth. Caleb had her and we just love her. She does such a great job with these little boys.
When we walked into the playground area and Gavin saw all the kids, and teachers and craziness, his eyes got really big and I think he was a little overwhelmed. But, then he saw his awesome friend Nathan. Sadly, they are not in the same class, but they will get to play together during recess.
Here he is lining his backpack up.
Caleb is now in 5th grade and his teacher is Ms. Sanchez. He was SO excited when he found out and told me "Mom, I can't believe that I got the best teacher in the whole school!" Part of what makes her the best is that she loves math and science. That is what Caleb excels in. I think he will have a great year.
Lined up and ready to go to class!!
How cute is he? I just love that kid.

I picked them up from school and asked them all about their first day. They were both eager to talk and excited about school. They were so nice to each other the rest of the day. Let me tell you, it was a difficult summer. They just bickered and whined and got on each others nerves basically everyday (unless they weren't together). I was a little worried about them. I wondered if they would ever get along again. Gavin would get mad at Caleb and tell him he hated him and Caleb (being the sensitive soul that he is) would get upset and cry and wonder why Gavin would say that to him. Caleb loves being a big brother and just wants Gavin to look up to him and let Caleb help him. So, I think they finally found a way to do that. Through school. Caleb knows all about school and is just bursting at the seams to help Gavin at school.

I thought maybe I picked up the wrong kids when they were just so nice to each other all afternoon. :) It was so fun and nice to see them getting along and Gavin thanking Caleb for all his help and Caleb telling Gavin that he will always help Gavin with his homework and whatever else he needs. This is what I hope will continue throughout the school year.

I really think that Gavin will thrive at "the big school" and Caleb will get to be the "helpful big brother". I have a good feeling about this year. I think things will change between Caleb and Gavin and get better.

Sabrina starts the community ed. program at Madison (the elementary school just to the north of us) in a few weeks. We are excited to see how things go with her.
